Terms of Service
Lectern for macOS · Effective March 8, 2026
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Lectern ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App.
Description of Service
Lectern is a macOS desktop application that allows you to compose and publish content to multiple social media platforms from a single interface. The App runs locally on your device and connects directly to third-party platform APIs on your behalf.
Your Accounts & Credentials
To use Lectern, you connect your own social media accounts by authenticating through each platform's official OAuth flow or by providing app-specific credentials. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your accounts and credentials. Lectern stores authentication tokens in the macOS Keychain and does not transmit them to any server other than the issuing platform.
Your Content
You retain full ownership of all content you create and publish through Lectern. The App does not claim any rights to your posts, media, or other content. When you publish, your content is sent directly to the platforms you select, subject to each platform's own terms of service.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use Lectern in compliance with all applicable laws and the terms of service of each connected social media platform. You are solely responsible for the content you publish. You agree not to use the App to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Infringe on the rights of others
- Distribute spam, malware, or harmful content
- Circumvent platform rate limits or abuse APIs
- Impersonate others or engage in deceptive practices
Media Hosting
Certain platforms (Threads, Instagram) require publicly accessible media URLs. If you configure Cloudflare R2 media hosting, you are responsible for providing your own R2 credentials and managing the associated storage and costs. Media uploaded to R2 is cleaned up automatically after publishing, but temporary public accessibility is inherent to this process.
No Warranty
Lectern is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with all platforms at all times. Platform APIs may change without notice, which may temporarily affect functionality.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developers of Lectern shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App. This includes but is not limited to damages resulting from failed posts, scheduling errors, or platform API changes.
Third-Party Services
Lectern interacts with third-party social media platforms and services. Your use of those platforms is governed by their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the actions, content, or policies of any third-party service.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. The revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
Termination
You may stop using Lectern at any time by uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored data. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the App at any time without notice.
